Ever since making my own Dutch Baby Pancake I’m obsessed with these puffy and easy oven baked pancakes. I’m contantly thinking about other variations I could make.

I first learned about this pancake on the tv-show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. How could it be named ‘Dutch’ while I, a Dutch food-obsessed girl, never heard about it? No way that it is Dutch! I finally

Shelling peas, spring is here!

Blog tour – about writing blog posts

While in Amsterdam -a few weeks back- I met up with Simone from Simone’s Kitchen, Maura from Yellow Lemon Tree and a few others. It was great meeting them in real live after knowing each other on social media for so long. Well, in case of Maura that is because I already followed one of Simone’s photography workshops.

Shelling peas, spring is here!

Maura is a super nice girl who just started writing a second blog with Suus from Food Bandits. They called it The (healthy) Breakfast Club and the name says it all, they have created a beautiful corner on the world wide web to serve you some delicious and amazingly good looking breakfast recipes!

Last week my new friend Maura emailed me to tell me that they were part of a ‘blog tour‘ and that thay wanted to pass it on to me.

Oh boys and girls!I just came up with THE BEST RECIPE EVER! Sorry for shouting but I’m so happy about this one. Look at that! Fregola with peas, pancetta and truffle. Fresh peas! The best pancetta ever! Truffle! What did I say? I mean TRUFFLE! I’m so crazy about this one! I really enjoyed this delicious recipe, this is insane.

I’ve always been a fan of peas. But I

For the past weeks, since April 8, every Tuesday I’ve been to the Food Truck Lot in Santa Monica, that’s quite often right? Okay, except for the two weeks I was in Amsterdam. But still that’s 6 Tuesday evenings in a row, haha! Last week, I didn’t meant going to the Food Trucks because there was enough food in the fridge, some remains of a cooking session that I did for my blog and barbecue leftovers from Memoral Day, the day before.

But my friends thought it was a good idea to meet at the Food Trucks so we could eat there all together. And heck, why not? At least the weather was perfect!
I love it to spread blankets and tarps on the grass and to order food from three different food trucks. Because yes, that’s what P and I did! I only skipped the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream afterwards because I already stuffed my face in truffle fries, everyday is not a Sunday 😉

And yet this week I give this ‘Food Truck Friday’ a festive touch with this delicious champorado, a Filipino rice pudding with white chocolate instead of dark chocolate. So yummy! Normally I never buy desserts at the food trucks, simply because I still want to lose weight and the fries are often my sin.

Brown rice bowl with kale

Brown rice bowl with kale and a poached egg | in my Red Kitchen Last week P and I saw the documentary ‘Fed Up‘ at the theatre. I’ve seen my fair share of food documentary as I was working at the largest documentary film festival for five years before moving to Los Angeles.

Documentaries like Food, Inc., Our Daily Bread, Sushi: the Global Catch, The End Of the Line but also of course ‘Jiro dreams of sushi‘, I’ve seen them all.

But still ‘Fed Up’ made me think. It made me think of the way we eat and the way we live. Even though I know it is important to be aware of what you eat, I still buy processed foods one in while without looking at the labels. Of course, my eating habits have improved over the years and I don’t eat as bad as I used to do (using store-bought mixes) but I still buy

The soft bread, the prosciutto and turkey pairing so well together with the mozzarella and pesto, and then those crunchy almonds! Whoever came up with the idea to put the ‘Prosciutto and Free Range Chicken’ sandwich on the menu of Mendochino Farms is a genius!

Cherimoya cookies

Cherimoya cookies #FearNoFruit | in my Red Kitchen Have you ever hear of ‘cherimoya’? I totally adore the name, it sounds so sweet and cute!

I’m the kind of girl that walks around the grocery store with an iPhone in her hand to google search the products she doesn’t know. Okay, and to use ‘Buy me a pie‘, my favorite grocery shopping list app.

A few weeks ago -while my sister was with me- we spotted a new-to-us fruit at the Wholefoods. Wikipedia told us that cherimoya is a

I’m on vacation!

Amsterdam

It’s quiet over here at inmyredkitchen.com but that is because I’m on vacation! Last Monday we celebrated our first ‘LAnniversary’, just in time before we hopped on a plane for a vacation in Amsterdam. It’s going to be strange having vacation in a country where I lived all my life but I can’t wait to come back to sunny LA and share my stories with you!

But for now: two weeks of partying with friends, eating home made food cooked by my Chinese aunt, biking through Amsterdam, eating bitterballen, stroopwafels and cheese and taking my grandparents out for their first sushi!

See you again in three weeks!

with love, Ellen
